  • more likely, it's a bombing target. usually big round circles in the desert near a military base means target range.
  • This is Trinity Site, where the test for the first nuclear explosion took place on July 16, 1945. For more information, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinity_site. It is open to the public twice a year, in early April and October.
  • Looking at other maps, this is the site of the Base Camp for the Trinity Test. Engineers and military personel were based here from October 1944 till at least September 1945.
  • i finally found it! No for the array!
  • not trinity. go northeast a bit. trinity is on the east side of range rd. 7, not the west.
  • It's interesting that the center of this area appears to be blurred out, perhaps at the government's request. My guess: it's current research and it's very sensitive. Not something old and widely known like Trinity.
  • Well, this area is no longer blurred out. It seems whatever they were doing here is now finished. They thoroughly graded approximately one square mile of ground. That's a huge effort to hide what ever it was they were doing.
  • in the middle is a fairly tall spire thing look for the shadow cast to the north
  • During the 80's, this site was used for submunitions or bomblets. You can still see the large round outline. There is another impact area to the northwest with a similar round diameter. These areas were known as 'Dolly Parton's Tits' because they were entirely cleared of vegetation.
