Travelers recognize the blue and red Chevron hallmark as a place to refuel gas tanks, grab snacks and purchase a cup of coffee for the road. For those in a rush, these stations provide technology enabling customers to get in and out within a few minutes. A typical station is less than 40,000 square feet and many offer diesel fuel and drive-thru car washes.

This property was originally a smaller rectangular shape, seeing a western expansion that opened up to Varner after 1972. The newer parcel originally belonged to Hollywood set designer Harry Oliver, who moved here to Thousand Palms in the 1940s from Borrego Springs to build Old Fort Oliver from adobe he made himself using local materials. Although Oliver's daughter and son-in-law tried to bring the property up to code to appease the county after Harry moved out due to ill health, it was deemed an "eyesore" and demolished.
