This building is actually the second Colbar eating house / restaurant. The original Colbar was located on Jalan Hang Jebat very nearby. It was opened in 1953 by Mr Lim presumably because it was close to the then British Army camp. In about 2003 the original building was earmarked for removal to make way for the construction of Portsdown Avenue - the road that joins Queenstown with the AYE. Jurong Town Corp who at the time were in charge of development of the whole area decided to help keep the Colbar and made it possible (with help from many others I am sure) to relocate it to its present position. More charmingly, they also managed to retain much of the original building.
