Esquiline Hill is one of the 'seven hills of Rome'. It was an up-scale neighborhood in ancient Rome until fire destroyed the homes in 64 AD. The Emporer Nero claimed the land for himself and build a palace complex called Domus Aurea or the Golden House on the hill.
