This is the old Ratnpura station and still railway department's property. The line, narrow-gauge then, was uneconomical and cut back to Avissawella. Now, the track is broad-gauge upto Avissawella and the department could not re-instate line to Ratnapura as politically-influential parties have built houses and shops on railway property.
