The N&W occupied Percival's Island and used it as a rail yard for decades since this was the route of the original N&W main line. Out of use by the 1970s the tracks were still there in the late 1970s. If you have an opportunity you can sometimes see a rail tank car in the river east of the US 29 bridge. Now a rail trail and natural area.
