Part of Saskatoon Fire & Protective Services' east division. Fire Station No. 5 was built in 1966, fulfilling a 1955 agreement made with the former town of Sutherland prior to its annexation.

As of 2017, plans were being made to relocate the station to College Quarter, on the University of Saskatchewan land near the intersection of College Drive and Preston Avenue.
