Villa Gonzalez is a municipality founded from an aging agricultural/tabacco hub; it is located about 5 miles from Santiago. Villa Gonzalez was once served by an industrial train line to move the agricultural goods as well as the transport the labor. The train line is no longer existant. The Villa Gonzalez center plaza is where the station stood. Villa Gonzalez continues to transform itself into a post-agricultural suburban locale.
Poverty and ignorance remains an ongoing problem.
