Seat of the Colorado State government. Denver's official altitude of one mile above sea level is measured outside the west entrance to the building, where the fifteenth step is engraved with the words "One Mile Above Sea Level."

    The step marked with the words "One Mile High" had to be moved in 2002 because the official elevation from the USGS was changed everywhere in Colorado. This includes pikes peak which is now officially 14,115 feet not the 14,110 they were before.
