mansion / manor house / villa, Tudor (architecture)

This Grade 1 listed Elizabethan house is called 'Manor of Bretune' in the Domesday Book and has history that spans a 414 year period. It is also said Queen Elizabeth I laid the first foundation stone herself. The architecture comprises of bricks and stone dressing and the hall itself is laid out in an 'E' shape (though a wing made way for a conservatory in the 1900's). Brereton's most notable feature is its twin octagonal turrets that are spanned by a bridge.
The end of the WW2 saw the hall utilized as a girl's school until 1992. Presently, the hall is a private family home.
