Plaza Ferguson (Manila)

Philippines / National Capital Region / Manila / Nuestra Señora de Guia
 park, town square

Plaza Ferguson (formerly known as Plaza Nuestra Señora de Guia) and oftentimes known as Plaza Guerrero is a plaza in Ermita. It was named after the image of the oldest statue of the Virgin Mary found in the area by Spanish soldiers. The former Plaza Ferguson has a marble monument surmounted by a double life-size bust in bronze, in honor of Arthur W. Ferguson, appointed by President McKinley as Secretary to the Philippine Commission in 1900. On July 16, 1901, he became Executive Secretary of the Philippine Government.

  • That's where a policeman caught me carrying an unlicensed pistol back in the early 70s. Plaza Ferguson back then.. I slipped him P20, and he let me go. I would probably not have gotten far for that sum today..
