Sometimes known as Last Stand Hill. During the closing stages of the Battle of Sunshine Church, July 31, 1864, US General George Stoneman withdraws with about 600 troopers and a few pieces of artillery to this hill with the aim of covering the breakout attempt of the brigades of Horace Capron and Silas Adams to the east and north. At around 4:00pm, with the Confederates gradually surrounding his position, and ammunition running short, Stoneman surrenders what is left of his division.
