cave / caves, crag
The cave is the most imposing site in the Manifold Valley and is situated in the centre of this unique habitat. The huge rock in which the cave is set juts out like a mountainous cliff and the entrance is clearly visible from all around.
It is believed the cave may have been used by the Romans and Saxons, maybe even 10,000 years ago. Ancient tools and remains of now extinct animals have turned up in the cave.
