This 200 acre Iron Age hill fort is one of the largest in Britain. It is also thought that the later Romans re-used this fort as a permanent fortification. Excavations have revealed Roman equipment of the legionary kind. The lack of any defence ditches suggests this stronghold was occupied for short periods of time or that the Roman Army sabotaged it so that it would not fall in enemies hands.
