The neighborhood of Outcalt started off weirdly, with a physical culture fan founding a camp that he called "Physical Culture City". After this fan, Benarr Macfadden, was arrested for sending porn through the mail, this camp was closed and so it turned into a vacationers' realm, with cabins for overnight stays in the "wilderness". By the 1960s and 1970s, it was becoming more of a regular suburban or exurban enclave, and the rash of housing development in the vicinity in the 1980s and 1990s confirmed that status.
