Droiched Nua (in English, Newbridge) on the River Liffey dates from the 12th century and encloses six ancient parishes - Ballymany, Carnalway, Great Connell, Killashee, Morristown Billar and Old Connell - and portions of others. It has a strong industrial base with rope and carpet making in place since the early 1930s. Newbridge Silver is an internationally known brand of quality silverware. County Kildare's only greyhound racing track is in Newbridge. There are first class golf courses in the area, a Riverbank Arts Centre and fishing. The famous Curragh Racecourse is just ourside the town on the road to Kildare. Newbridge though small is bustling and modern with a good array of shops, coffee shops, restaurants, hotels and pubs.
