Cathedral of Icon of Our Lady of the Way (Ulan-Ude)

Piously-Odigitrievsky cathedral – one of the first stone buildings the Uhlan – Ude. It is located in the city centre, on river bank Udy at its confluence of Selenga.

Begun in 1741, cathedral building lasted more than 40 years. In 1770 prelate Sofrony, the bishop Irkutsk, has consecrated the bottom, warm side-altar for the sake of Bogojavlenija Gospodnja. The top side-altar, summer, for the sake of an icon of Bozhiej of Mother Odigitrii has been consecrated in 1785.

As cathedral parts settled non-uniformly, in 1818 in its base and the arch there were cracks. Them became even more the ambassador of earthquakes 1862 and 1885.

In the twenties the XX-th centuries the temple has appeared in hands обновленцев which suited here "chair". Buryat-Mongolian АССР from September, 6th, 1929 the cathedral has been closed by the decision of Presidium of the Central executive committee for the reason «refusal of the Odigitrievsky society of believers of manufacture of repair of a temple».

In 1930 have removed bells. At first in a cathedral courses стройкадров, since 1934 – antireligious, and then and museum of local lore took places. Subsequently, till 1999, in a temple there were funds of a museum of history of Buryatiya.

On March, 31st, 1992 at a cathedral orthodox arrival is registered, and on May, 23rd, 1996 on Voznesenija Gospodnja holiday six bells are established. On a holiday of Position of a fair cope of the Lord of our Jesus Christ in Moscow, on July, 23rd, 1999 on a cathedral belltower the cross has been established.

Since 1997, on August, 10th in day of an icon of Bozhiej of Mother Smolensk (Одигитрия), by the central part of a city passes religious procession.

In day of memory of prelate Amvrosija Medical Iolansky, on December, 20th, 1999, Russian Orthodox Church the bottom side-altar, and on May, 30th 2000 – top has been transferred.

By the end of 2001, according to plan of a damage control of the Odigitrievsky cathedral, all cracks are investigated and the bases are strengthened.

In the bottom temple divine services (the first liturgy is made on March, 26th, 2000) are spent, the library, Sunday school work. Piously-Odigitrievsky arrival «Orthodox Buryatiya» publishes the newspaper Buryat благочиния.
