The SS Thistlegorm was a British armed Merchant Navy ship.The Thistlegorm was sunk by two German bombers returning from Crete.They dropped two 1,000 lb bombs,both hit the ship.The bombs penetrated No 4 Hold detonating ammunition stored there.It was so forceful that it launched two railway locomotives stacked on deck into the air.
