This building is the city hall of the city of Harderwijk. It is a municipality with a population 40,000(2007) and a small city in the province of Gelderland in the eastern Netherlands.

Harderwijk received city rights from Count Otto II of Guelders in 1231. A defensive wall surrounding the city was completed by the end of that century.
