  • I am indeed very happy to find name of my village ; Killora ; and may tell you that I love this place. This is where I was born in 1946. I passed my class V examination from the village primary school. I remember the annual examination was held in Pinjura. The test was given by inspector schools named Abdul Aziz Bhat.Children from neighbouring primary schools appeared in the examination. I had the distinction to stand first in the examination. Mr Abdul Rehman Bhat of Shopian was the teacher. He was a very deicated teacher. He is now no more . May Allah grant him Jannat-i Firdous! It is the place where I spent my childhood. It is the place where I learnt a lot about history and sciences. I cant forget the time I spent with friends chasing birds in paddy fields , observing their behaviour. It is here that I learnt about the local flora and fauna. My father was Lamberdar of both Killora and Malikgund. He was highly respected. He was an educated person and knew persian , arabic and basic mathematics. It was here that I learnt persian from my father. My mother named Jana gave me the first lessons of life. Our was an educated family and this somehow put me at an advantageous position vis a vis most of my classmates whose parents were illiterate. After passing class V examination I was admitted in Govt High School Shopian. I was a bright student and fared better than most of my class fellows in examinations. I topped class VII examination called middle standard examination. It was set at district level. I passed my Class X examination in 1960 and joined Intermediate College Anantnag same year in July.it was two tear course. I was to appear in annual examination in March 1963 but almost six months prior to final exam was betrothed. I was married in Januray , 1963 to a girl from Srinagar who was the only child of her parents. After passing my F.Sc from Anantnag college I sought admission in SP college ; graduated in 1965 and took admission in Physiacs subject at the university of Kashmir I did my M.Sc and joined services in 1968 as a translator in Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Secretariat. I relinquished this job in 1974 and joined education deptt as Senior master (gazetted cadre) Physics; did my B.Ed in 1975 . I was selected as Research Officer Physics State Institute of Education in 1978 and worked as such till 1979. In 1979 I was elevated to the post of Field Advisor Sciences SIE Srinagar and worked on the post till May 1984 . In May 1984 I was deputed to Board of School Education where I worked in various capacities like Academic Officer , Liaison Officer , Deputy Director ; Head CDRW . In 1994 I won a scholarship for further studies at the University of Cambridge. I speacialized in Curriculum Development and Educational Assessment . It was during my stay at Cambridge University that I produced my dissertation called School Based Assessment. On my return I was apponited as Dircetor Academic . I was subsequently elevated as Secretary of the Board. I have much more to say and shall do that next time.
