The Mt. Washington Cog Railway. The world's first and oldest cog railway in operation today. Opened in 1869, it was the brain-child of Sylvester Marsh who first proposed the idea after becoming trapped on the mountain with a friend in a violent storm. Averages a 25 degree climb. At it's steepest it climbs a 37.4 degree slope.
