KIRTI MANDIR - MAHATMA GANDHI'S HOME..Kirthi Mandir, the birth-place of the father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi, is the main centre of attraction for the tourists. It was built by Shri Nanji Kalidas and Shri Purushottam Mistry.

Kirti Mandir, Porbandar is a national monument of Gujarat that was said to be the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. Kirti Mandir is located in the Porbandar city, a seaside town of Gujarat. The city also has a mythological association. It is believed that Sudana, Lord Krishna's classmate resided in the city. Porbandar was thus known as Sudanapuri. The Kirti Mandir, Porbandar has a memorial of Mahatma Gandhi and contains a library with books on Gandhism, a spinning hall, a children's nursery and a lovely prayer hall. In the prayer hall of the Kirti Mandir of Gujarat prayers of all faith are regularly organized.

Kirti Mandir, Porbandar is constructed adjacent to the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhiji was born in Porbandar in 1869. Innumerable Indian tourists visit Kirti Mandir of Gujarat and the ashram of Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba, his wife to pay their homage to the great leader of Indian National Movement. The Kirti Mandir, Porbandar has a huge Gandhian library which has an innumerable collection of valuable books on Gandhian thought.

Gujarat Kirti Mandir is a majestic monumental building, popularly known as the Temple of Fame. Kirti Mandir, Porbandar was built by Maharaja Sayaji Rao III in 1936 AD. Kirti Mandir is an 'E' shaped building that consists of the following structures:


A domes
A terraces
A number of balconies
A central sikhara

The 'sikhara' of the Kirti Mandir of Porbandar is 33 meters high and constructed in the Hindu style. It cost Rs 50,000 to construct the graceful Kirti Mandir at Porbandar. The interior of this elegant structure of Gujarat Kirti Mandir is marble finished and considered to be the cenotaph of the Gaekwads.
