Currently a NYPD Police Facility for Specialized Units (Bronx Borough Detective Command). This building was previously home to the NYPD 41st Precinct, until that was moved to 1035 Longwood Ave., about 2/3rds of mile to the south, in the mid-1990s as a part of the notorious South Bronx redevelopment programme.

The 41st Precinct was made famous by the movie "Fort Apache, The Bronx", a 1981 crime drama, alleged by the author Tom Walker to have been based on his book "Fort Apache" in turn based in that precinct. It stars Paul Newman, Ken Wahl, Danny Aiello, Rachel Ticotin, Edward Asner, Miguel Piñero, and Pam Grier.

The precinct house actually used as the location in the film, however, was in fact the 42nd Precinct House @ 830 Washington Ave., which has a small open plaza in front, used in the famous protest/riot scenes in the film, rather than the narrow street as here in Simpson street.

By 1980, the 41st was renamed "The Little House on the Prairie", as fully 2/3 of the 94,000 residents originally served by the precinct had fled, leaving the fortified station house as one of the few structures in the neighborhood (and the sole building on Simpson Street) that had not been abandoned or burnt out. One of the photos above shows the house in 1983 shortly after the filming, when it was the sole remaining building on this side of the street not burnt out by gangs, the other shows the modern house (12.2008) with all detective cars drawn up in front.
