A tribute to Sir Frank Whittle, it is thought that Lutterworth was the one of workplaces of Sir Frank Whittle, This statue of the plane stands in the middle of a roundabout just south of the town as a memorial.

  • Having worked in Lutterworth this roundabout is used as a way point, commonly both commuters & locals refers to the junction as spitfire roundabout
  • I concur that locals refer to it as the 'spitfire roundabout'. :-)

  • It's not even a Meteor but seems to be a sleeker version of the Gloster E.28/39 or Gloster "Whittle" the first British Jet aircraft to fly. A suitable memorial . .

  • It's not a meteor !! It's a Gloster E.28/39 as the engine was developed and produced in lutterworth boasting to be the UK's first jet fighter.
