castle, earthwork (archaeology)
This mound is the location of the ancient Norman Manor that dates back to around 1100 AD according to archaeological examinations. Little remains of the actual structure because like many other early Norman castles, it was built of earth and wood with timber wall defences encompassed by either a moat or ditch.
