Phang Nga Bay

Thailand / Phangnga /

Phang Nga Bay is a large area which actually covers three provinces: Phang Nga, Phuket and Krabi. The numerous limestone islands found in Phang Nga are unique to only three locations in the entire world.

A portion of the bay is also protected and regulated under the Phang Nga Bay Marine National Park. Trips of all sorts around this bay are increasing in popularity every high season. Organizers are required to pay a park admission for each guest. This regulation was placed in effect to better manage preserving the delicate ecosystems on each island. However, the estimated number of visitors to Phang Nga Bay greatly outnumber the quantity of admissions paid to the national park.

The islands of Phang Nga support large numbers of mangroves, monkeys, bats, lizards, eagles and a wide variety of sea life. Certain islands within Phang Nga Bay are highly trafficked by the sea canoes and kayak companies. Tourists and tour operators feed the monkeys whatever food they bring. Visitors often walk around the mangroves for photographs which in turn damages the mangroves pneumatophores (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mangrove) which is how mangroves breath air.

John Gray's Sea Canoe was the first company to give tours of Phang Nga Bay by sea canoe and kayak. The company not only shows their guests the beauty of Phang Nga, but educates them on how the ecosystems work. Over the years, John Gray Sea Canoes have worked closely with the local communities of Phang Nga, the national park, government and media to provide the best service possible. The company also organizes clean up trips in an effort to educate people of all nationalities just how important it is to keep out oceans and Phang Nga Bay clean.
