Opened in 1855, the Gavião Cemetery was known as the Cemetery St. Joseph Mercy, so that was run by the Brotherhood of Mercy. However, over the years, breaks the link with the fellowship, changing its name to Cemetery of São Pantaleão. But it is more popularly known as the Gavião Cemetery, named after the area in which it is located: Quinta do Gavião.
