Temple, Texas

USA / Texas / Temple /

Temple, Texas is the largest city in Bell County, located at the intersection of Interstate Highway 35 (I-35) and Texas State Highways 53 and 95. The settlement began to be developed in 1880, after Johnathan E. Moore sold 180 acres of land in the area to local railroad companies for use as a construction camp.

The city quickly grew after its foundation; in 1930, the city's population was 15,345. Local residents petitioned for the movement of the county seat from nearby city Belton to Temple, but these efforts soon failed. Nonetheless, the city continued to grow following the Great Depression, and today has a population of 67,188.
