USS Decatur was the 4th Forrest Sherman Class Destroyer and was originally based with the US Atlantic Fleet from 1956 to 1964. Following a collision with the USS Lake Champlain (CV-39) which removed most of her superstructure she was rebuilt and reclassified as a Guided Missile Destroyer a role she served from 1966 to 1983.
She was placed into the Pearl Harbor Reserve Fleet and was eventually converted into a remote control Self-Defense Test Ship and served in the Pacific from 1994-2003 in that role before she was replaced by the USS Paul F. Foster (DD-964).
The Decatur was sunk at this location in 2560 fathoms on July 21st, 2004 during RIMPAC 2004.
