The USS Merrill was the 14th member of the Spruance Class of Destoryers and served with the US Navy from 1978 to 1998 as a member of the US Pacific Fleet.

She was decommissioned and stricken on the same day in 1998 and was placed into the reserve fleet at NISMF Pearl Harbor until August 1st, 2003 when she was sunk at this location as part of fleet excercises.

  • I served on board in both engine rooms. I always wondered what happened to her. It's a shame they did make an artificial reef out of her for diving.
  • Merrill was my home from November of '83 to September of '87. Made her second deployment with the USS New Jersey in '86, it was quite a trip.
  • Micheal Monahan(HT2) Farewell old girl. I joined the Merrill in the summer of '87 just as she was completing an overhaul. The ship yard sucked but the shake down cruse was one of coolest memory I have of the ship.
