The inscription reads "Jaw bones of a whale captured by the ship Andrew Marvel in the year 1820, and presented by Mr Stanton, formerly of Evesham (who assisted in the capture) to the late Dr Beale Cooper, in whose grounds near here it stood for upwards of eighty years. Presented in the year 1905 to the Borough by Mrs Frances Edwards, Dr Cooper's granddaughter."
