region, locality (geography)

In medieval times, Bengeworth was a seperate community across the river Avon from Evesham. Its castle was seen by the nearby Evesham Abbey as a rival to its power. Somewhere between 1149 and 1159, Abbott William found a pretext for levelling the castle, and consecrated the ground upon it once stood to prevent it from being fortified again.
