The Crystal Shrine Grotto is a man-made cave located inside of Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis. Mexican folk artist Dionicio Rodriquez designed and created the cave over the course of ten years, beginning in 1937. Within the grotto are ten scenes depicting the life of Jesus Christ and additions to the scenes continued to be added for the next four decades. The scenes were done in mixed media of paint and sculpture by a variety of artists. The cave offers a peaceful ambience and even those who are not religious will surely appreciate its artistic value. Please enjoy these images from the grotto but note that pictures do not do justice to the beauty of the actual scenes. The Crystal Shrine Grotto is open to the public free of charge.
