In 1994, the former Metropolitan Hospital was converted into the Detroit Job Corps Center replacing the old center located in the former Hanna YMCA building at 10400 East Jefferson Avenue. The hospital was built in 1935, with additions added in 1960 and 1972, at which time it contained 156 beds. Two auxiliary buildings were constructed in 1960. The hospital closed in 1986.
The Job Corps Center provides education and career training for 340 students ages 16-24 who reside in four residence halls. A new dormitory building and welcome center was added in 2013.
