This is one of the oldest locations in the old Omdurman market. In the 1800s and the first half of the 20th century fresh and clean water was sold here. The location was also used for major announcements and executions by al-Mahdi's Khalifa. In his book, Sword and Fire, Slatin Pasha recalls how 10s of rebellious Bataheen, an arab tribe in al-Jazeera province, were beheaded and amputated by the Khalifa's men.
