This marks the point at which the Seaton Branch joined the main line from Waterloo.(L & SW Railway).
From 1860, the main line station was called 'Colyton for Seaton', then 'Colyton Junction' briefly after the branch had been opened in 1868, and finally 'Seaton Junction' from July 1869.
The adjacent Express Dairies Depot generated considerable milk traffic up until the junction closed in 1966.
The rather tired and run down appearance of this once busy junction - including the two foot bridges which are surprisingly still intact - and the depot is not inconsiderable, though the 'tired-looking' Milk Depot is now occupied by an engineering firm.
It remains a fascinating glimpse into fairly recent history nonetheless, with cottages & former council houses built nearby, as one would expect in this relatively isolated setting.
It isn't difficult to imagine the hive of activity generated by the advent of rural industry spawned in the heyday of the railways, yet still busy until some 40 odd years ago.
