The main function of this fortress was to protect the residents of the county, as well as a place to perform military and administrative duties.
This fortress is located on the bottom of Mt. Cheolma, Seongnae-ri, Jindo-eup. It became independent in 1437, the19th year of King Sejong in Jindo county. The 11-Korean-foot high and 3,400 Korean-foot fortress was constructed with three gates.

Yeojidoseo』says that this fortress had 14 battlements to protect main entrance, 58 ChiCheops, an extra lower wall projecting outside the castle wall, and a pond with a circumference of 4,500 Korean feet with a depth of 5 Korean feet. The fortress also had 5 wells inside.

Originally, the wall had rectangular shape, and the west wall was shorter than the east. The remaining wall of the northeast corner near Gungang Park is quite large at approximately 2-3.5m high and 50m long. The north wall surrounds the county office and the outside of Jindo Elementary School site. In the back of the old county office (Cultural Art Center at present) are walls of 1.8-2m high and 50m long. Only the lower part of the original wall (1-1.2m high) remains in the back of the new county office and about 50m of west wall remains west of the school site.
