The original Seaholm Power Plant was constructed 1949-1956. Gas-fired steam turbines, the initial installation consisting of 40 MW, later expanded to 125 MW. Named (posthumously, in 1960) after Walter Seaholm who held the city's electric utility together through the Depression and the Flood of 1935. Decommissioned 1989 but later used as a nightclub (which has since closed, closed around 2011)
It is being redeveloped into a large mixed-use area simply named "Seaholm"
