Saint John Church (São Luís)

Brazil / Maranhao / Sao Luis / São Luís / São João Street
 Roman Catholic church, historical building

The Church of St. John the Baptist was built in 1665 by Governor Ruy Vaz de Silveira, in neoclassical style. Legend has it that if an application was granted, the church would be built as an expression of gratitude to the saint. In this case, an extra marital should be kept secret so that the agreement was made.
It was reformed in 1934, and kept for many years the remains of the informer's disloyalty Joaquim Silverio dos Reis. Opposite the church there is a square, where once there was a fountain.
