  • Agios Georgios is a small uninhabited islet of the Northern Sporades, located east of the island of Skopelos and administratively under the municipality of the same name. The islet of Agios Georgios is located east of the island of Skopelos. It belongs to two habitats of the European Natura 2000 network, which is a pan-European network for the protection of species and their habitats: In the habitat "Kyra Panagia, Piperi, Psathoura and surrounding islets of Agios Georgios, Nissi Adelfoi, Lehousa, Gaidouronisia", which is a "Special Protection Area (SPA)" for the conservation of wild birds. This habitat is among the seventeen most important habitats in Greece for two species of threatened and protected Mediterranean bird fauna, the Shag (Phalacrocorax aristotelis desmarestii) and the Black-backed Gull (Larus audouinii). The island is surrounded by sloping, rocky coasts and inaccessible cliffs that constitute ideal refuges for seabirds that breed on coastal cliffs, for wading birds, raptors and passerines. The arid terrain is covered by small stands of native conifers, sclerophyllous shrubs, phrygana and tall maquis. The seabed is rocky and the only human activity in the area is fishing Administrative changes Until 1845 it was a settlement of the Municipality of Skopelos, while on 08/12/1845 it was abolished. In 1961 it was recognized again as a settlement, annexed to the same municipality and remained so for the next ten years. On 14/03/1971 the settlement was abolished and Agios Georgios has remained an islet of the Municipality of Skopelos ever since. https://el.wikipedia.org/wiki/%CE%86%CE%B3%CE%B9%CE%BF%CF%82_%CE%93%CE%B5%CF%8E%CF%81%CE%B3%CE%B9%CE%BF%CF%82_%CE%A3%CE%BA%CE%BF%CF%80%CE%AD%CE%BB%CE%BF%CF%85
