  • Grigori Rasputin - the "Mad Monk" who got power from the Tsar for curing his son's blood disorder was one thing the people hated about Tsar Nicholas II. His death is a good story. Prince Yusupov and other nobles invited Rasputin here to a party. At the party they had cakes with different coloured icing. One colour icing meant the cake contained cyanide. Rasputin ate some poisoned cakes but nothing happened. Next they gave him poisoned wine and still nothing happened. It seems he had a resistance to cyanide. Anyway, someone shot him in the chest. Rasputin fell - but did not die. Everyone else ran and grabbed him, kicking and beating him then smashing his head in with a club. Since he still showed signs of life, they took him out to the frozen river and cut a hole in the ice, and pushed him through so he drowned and froze beneath the ice shelf. He finally got the message and died.
