The former Edington Station / Junction on the S & D J Railway - where the branch to Bridgwater over the Poldens (NB Cossington Bank) departed from the main line to Highbridge & Burnham on Sea.
The nearby pub - formerly called The Railway - has been re-named 'The Tom Mogg', in memory of the last porter at the station.
The actual station is more than a mile from Edington, and led to a modest growth in Edington Burtle ( or Burtle, as it is generally known to local inhabitants).
For an isolated rural hamlet, it opened-up the possibilty of travelling almost anywhere in the UK via Highbridge, or via Evercreech Junction to Bath or Templecombe and onwards; that is if you had the means to do so.
More realistically, it meant that a trip to the coast was possible, and employment opportunities on the railway itself or at the railway carriage works at nearby Highbridge - which after closure, ultimately provided the land and infrastructure for the initial part of the extensive Trading Estate(s) at Highbridge
