Jervis Bay Territory

Australia / New South Wales / Ulladulla /
 first-level administrative division  Add category

The Jervis Bay Territory was bought by the Commonwealth Government (Australia's Federal Government) in 1915 from the state of New South Wales so the Federal capital Canberra would have access to the sea. The territory adheres roughly to Australian Capital Territory law. Its residents do not have representation at the local or state level, there is however a Jervis Bay Administration that handles matters normally concerned with local or state government.

When the ACT gained self-government in 1988, the Jervis Bay Territory became a separate territory of the Commonwealth of Australia under the authority of the federal government. Oddly, this did not include the ACT land on the Beecroft Peninsula (perhaps for legal reasons), which remains a part of the ACT and not the Jervis Bay Territory. This area of the Beecroft Peninsula is included in the outline.
