Constructed in 1913 and equipped with two M1897 6in artillery guns mounted on disappearing carriages, Battery Jackson was designed to counter vessels up to Cruiser size and had had an effective range of approximately 15,000 yards. Augmented in 1915 by the addition of a large reinforced concrete air raid shelter capable of housing the majority of noncombatants stationed at Fort Kamehameha, Battery Jackson remained in operation through 1943 when its main guns were deemed obsolete.
Still in use today by the Hawaii Air National Guard, Battery Jackson is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
