Constructed from November 1907 to 1913 as one of the primary heavy coastal artillery emplacements guarding Pearl Harbor, Battery Selfridge was completed with two M1895 12in guns mounted on disappearing carriages. With an effective range of approximately 30,000 yards, both guns mounted in Battery Selfridge and those mounted in Battery Closson provided long-range protection to the waters South of Pearl Harbor until the end of the Second World War.
Now part of Hickam Air Force Base and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Battery Selfridge's internal spaces are used by the Hawaii Air National Guard.
