Another steel lattice viaduct, now bypassed by the new railway alignment to the east.
The viaduct is 111 feet above the stream and is 400 feet long. It is built with a 10 chain radius curve like the Hapuawhenua Viaduct .
This is now another "Bridge to Nowhere."
The fourth photo is of the volunteer group, from Tongariro Natural History Society, which cleared the coach road and the railway cutting on the northern side of the Taonui Viaduct, on December 6, 2008.
This unique viaduct received a Category 1 classification from the New Zealand Historic Places Trust on March 27th, 2009.
