Research center for many weather and climate analysis projects since 1977. The tower is nearly 1000 feet tall and has weather instruments installed at many levels. This allows detailed measurements to be made in situations such as a cold front, thunderstorm, or snowstorm, when it would be dangerous to collect such information using balloons or airplanes.
