A well-known hostlery & eating house on the Mendips, that unfortunately is now derelict. Business had dropped off significantly due to the economic climate and smoking ban, however a bumper series of bookings at Christmas time would have saved the business, or at least staved off bankruptcy for a while. However, severe snow conditions meant that most of the bookings were cancelled for Christmas, and that was the end of The Slab House, and it closed its doors soon after.

Some weeks later, fire swept through the building, utterly destroying it, and now it remains as a burnt out shell and abandoned.

  • The Slab House Inn was ruined when that smart duo the rich guy and the "celebrity" chef wrecked its character and charm. They thought the Mendips could benefit from a Spanish themed eatery. What dolts. We said it wouldn't last into the following year and it didn't. Our loss was a beautiful pub and restaurant that served decent meals that brought people from far and wide.
