military, abandoned / shut down, aircraft hangar
Built in 1956 and able to house a pair of DC-4's or DC-3's out of the elements, this hangar saw regular use by the assigned wing of transport helicopters based at RCAF Station Winisk during its operations as part of the Mid-Canada Line. Last used in the late 1980's as a civilian aircraft hangar, the destruction of the nearby town of Winisk by floodwaters led to the abandonment of the hangar and airfield, and the building has since been badly damaged by the elements. Along with the rest of the former Air Force Station, the hangar is slated for eventual demolition and site remediation in the near future.
