place with historical importance, fort, interesting place
King's Island, as it was then called was first armed with a single cannon salvaged from the 1609 wreck of the Sea Venture as a temporary measure and in 1612, proper fortifications were erected to protect the only deep water entrance into Castle Harbour. In 1614 this fort proved itself in staying off Spain's only ever attack on Bermuda. Kings Castle Fort is Bermuda's oldest standing stone building and is the oldest surviving English fortification in the New World.
